Mary Mangotich Grier
As a trustee of the Haury Estate, and long-time friend of Mrs. Haury, Mary Mangotich Grier has brilliantly, tirelessly, and joyfully worked with representatives of the UAF, UA, and the Haury Program to carry-out the legacy of Mrs. Haury. She has been instrumental in every step of the Program’s development -- from creating the bequest to the UA for the Haury Program, to representing and leading on the DAF Board. Her commitment to service to the UA community has been unparalleled. She has been ultimately responsible for innumerable positive impacts to the many people and programs she has touched. In 2018, Ms. Grier (’77) was awarded the College of Law Alumna of the Year. College of Law Dean Marc Miller stated that Ms. Grier “personifies the deep Arizona Law traditions of service and engagement -- with the profession, our communities, and our College.”
During her professional career, she served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arizona, representing the Arizona State Land Department. She also spent almost 20 years in private legal practice as a shareholder in Tucson, Arizona, and Monterey, California law firms. She also worked for the City of Phoenix in economic development and finance.
Ms. Grier has served the State Bar of Arizona, the Pima County and Monterey County Bar Associations, and the Arizona Women Lawyer’s Association in various leadership roles and was acknowledged as the State Bar of Arizona’s Member of the Year in 1999. Ms. Grier has also served as a member of the Board of Directors and in various offices and committees of the Arizona Bar Foundation, the University of Arizona Law College Association, Arizona Town Hall, Soroptimist International of Phoenix, and Musician Enrichment Foundation, and as trustee of the Agnese Nelms Haury trust. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, photography, her family, and writing.
