Kevin has been a faculty member at the University of Arizona since 2002, with appointments in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment. To facilitate engagement with a much broader audience, he currently serves as Director of Education and Outreach at Biosphere 2 and Director of Outreach Initiatives in the College of Science. A PhD followed from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in evolutionary physiology using lizards as a model system. His recent research on reptiles and amphibians includes charismatic Gila monsters and canyon treefrogs, with emphasis on natural history, ecology, and conservation. Other research collaborations include a focus on the evolution of hearing and the inner ear in reptiles and mammals. In addition to other teaching accolades, Kevin received the 2012 UA Distinguished Early-Career Science Teaching Award for many well-loved courses, including introductory biology, herpetology, conservation biology, and vertebrate physiology. He is a Fellow of the Flinn-Brown Civic Leadership Academy, is affiliated with the UA Institute of the Environment, and serves on the boards of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, the Friends of Saguaro National Park, and the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO) in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora.
